Industrial Linkages Office

Where Skills Meet Opportunity

At Kandara Technical and Vocational College, we integrate academic learning with practical industry exposure to nurture confident and competent graduates. To achieve this, the Industrial Linkages Department partners with industries or employers to provide learners with hands-on experience, access to modern technologies, and insight into workplace expectations ensuring they are well-prepared for the demands of today’s job market.

The office is responsible for the following:

 1. Industrial Training / Attachment / Mentorship

At Kandara Technical and Vocational College, Industrial Attachment is mandatory industry placements after  learning modules. It bridges the gap between classroom instruction and real-world application by giving trainees the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in actual work environments.

Purpose of Industrial Attachment

  • The main objective of industrial attachment is to:
  • Equip trainees with practical skills aligned to their area of specialization
  • Expose them to real-life work settings, tools, and industry practices
  • Build confidence, responsibility, and workplace ethics
  • Strengthen the connection between academic learning and labor market demands
  • Real-world experience, practical skills, confidence, and improved employability

2. Dual Training

We implement a Dual Training model to ensure our trainees receive both theoretical knowledge and practical skills in equal measure. Dual training is an approach where students alternate between classroom-based learning at the college and hands-on training within industry settings. This structured rotation allows learners to apply what they’ve learned in real work environments while continuing their academic development. By working under the guidance of experienced industry professionals, trainees gain exposure to actual tools, technologies, and workflows used in their field of study.

This model exemplifies Kandara TVC’s commitment to producing skilled, confident, and industry-aligned graduates prepared for Kenya’s evolving labor market.

3. Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) at Kandara Technical and Vocational College

At Kandara Technical and Vocational College, we recognize that learning doesn’t only happen in classrooms. Through our Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) program, individuals who have acquired skills through informal learning, work experience, or self-teaching are given the opportunity to receive formal certification. RPL is a structured process that assesses the knowledge and competencies already held by an individual, compares them to current qualification standards, and awards credit or full qualifications where applicable. This approach not only validates existing capabilities but also opens up pathways for further training, employment, and academic progression.

Ideal for: Adults, skilled workers, self-taught individuals.

Process: Self-assessment – submit evidence – assessment – certification or credit.
