Background (History of Kandara TVC)
Kandara Technical and Vocational College is situated in Murang’a County, Kandara Subcounty, 10 km off the Thika–Kenol highway from Makenji. It is near Kiranga Shopping Centre along the Makenji-Kandara road. The institution sits on a 5-acre piece of land.
The institution was launched by Hon. Alice Muthoni, the Member of Parliament for Kandara Constituency, on 7th August 2019, and was under the mentorship of Michuki Technical Training Institute from its opening until 2nd December 2021. The college enrolled its first batch of artisan and craft students on 6th September 2019, who sat for their examinations in January 2020 under the Kenya National Examination Council. The institution was officially opened by H.E. William Samoei Ruto, the Deputy President of the Republic of Kenya, on 6th March 2020. The institution began with 8 members of staff and 100 trainees. Currently, it has a staff establishment of 21 members and 405 trainees. The college trains on three curriculums: KNEC, NITA, and CDACC. A Board of Governors appointed by the Ministry of Education manages the college, and it operates under the TVET Act of 2013.
